County
Board/Zoning Ordinance Review Committee (ZORC)
Discussion on Maximum Lot Coverage
Monday, June 11th, 7:30 PM
The Zoning Ordinance
Review Committee (ZORC) has been reviewing four separate subjects in
the general area of infill residential development in the single-family
zoned portions of the County. One key issue is that of maximum lot
coverage.
The June 11th meeting
focuses on this issue. At that meeting the County Board is likely to
decide which proposed changes to the current zoning rules regarding
maximum lot coverage to publicly advertise for consideration and possible
adoption The meeting is open to the public, with discussion limited
to Board members, staff, and the ZORC members.
The overall effort
is intended to address public concerns that current County ordinances
permit the construction of "monster mansions" or "McMansions"
(pick your favorite pejorative phrase) that are inappropriate infill
development in Arlington's established neighborhoods. The ordinance
changes under discussion, if approved, will reign in these oversized
homes a bit in the future, but probably not as much as some might like.
