Zoning Issues and Infill Housing

27 June WCA Letter to Zoning Administrator

Wednesday, June 27, 2001 4:35 AM

Dear Mr. Russell:

The Williamsburg Civic Association met last night to discuss zoning and infill housing. Several members of the Zoning Ordinance and Review Committee were on hand to summarize proposed changes now under consideration by the County. Ms Namioka was also present to answer questions on current zoning limits and how those restrictions are enforced. Our members now have a much better understanding of the impact of zoning restrictions on our neighborhood.

However, our members are still not clear on how this process resulted in the structure now under construction at 6430 North 27th Street. We understand, from previous conversations and from Ms Namioka's answers to our questions, that the Board of Zoning Appeals granted the owner of that structure a variance. The 45 participants at last night's meeting asked me to invite you to explain why the Zoning Administrator supported that variance.

Our next meeting is on 17 July. Can you attend this meeting and explain your position to our members? If this date does not work for you, we also have a meeting scheduled for 28 August.

Please let me know of your availability for those dates by 28 June. We need to include information on upcoming programs in our July newsletter.

I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you very much.

Ellen Jones
President, Williamsburg Civic Association
