East Falls Church Metro Station

Planning Study of East Falls Church Station

Prompted in part by the Arlington/East Falls Church Civic Association (AEFCCA), Arlington County and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) have begun a study of the East Falls Church Metro Station. The primary objective of the study and any ensuing project will be to improve conditions for vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic accessing the station. The study is to:

  • review potential for commercial/residential development in the station area
  • consider additional park-and-ride capacity
  • look at intermodal traffic convenience and safety in accessing the station and improved traffic operation problems on adjacent streets
  • consider ways to improve connections between Metrobus and Metrorail

The goal is to find ways to maximize the attractiveness of Metrorail and attain the highest value possible from the station area in the overall development of the western Arlington and eastern Falls Church communities.

The future of the East Falls Church Metro Station is important to the Williamsburg community, since there will inevitably be pressure for expanded parking and commercial development around the station, especially if the proposed "silver" line to Dulles is built, with East Falls Church as a transfer station, as part of the Dulles Corridor Rapid Transit Project.

How to Learn More:

  • The point of contact on the County Staff for the East Falls Church Station study is Jim Hamre (703-228-3698). He was the speaker at our 17 July 2001 meeting.
  • A public meeting on the East Falls Church Metro Station study will be held in early September 2001.
  • Scott Peterson (202-962-1458) is the WMATA Project Manager.
  • Rob Kerns (202-775-6075) is the consultant working on the study.

WCA will be working closely with the Arlington/East Falls Church Civic Association in the coming months to make sure that neighbors throughout this part of Arlington are aware of developments affecting this Metro station and have a chance to make an input into the planning process.
