Goals May 2003-May 2004
Make
Williamsburg a more pedestrian-friendly community.
- Monitor County
implementation of Powhatan Street Neighborhood Traffic Calming Project.
- Work with citizens
and County Staff on the Little Falls Neighborhood Traffic Calming
project (from Harrison to Lexington).
- Assist/support/advise
community residents on all other existing and future requests to
Neighborhood Traffic Calming Committee.
- Work closely
with County during implementation of Little Falls 1 and 2 pedestrian
safety/median projects. Keep near neighbors informed through working
group meetings.
- Work closely
with County during implementation of Williamsburg Boulevard pedestrian
safety/median projects. Keep near neighbors informed through working
group meetings.
- Work with County
staff and residents to submit Sycamore Street Median/Beautification
project to NCAC.
- Explore the
possibility of submitting pedestrian safety/median project to NCAC
for remaining portions of Williamsburg Boulevard (from the Circle
to North Kensington St.).
- Work with County
Task Force developing an Arterial Transportation Management program
(for traffic calming on arterial streets like Sycmoare and WIilliamsburg).
- Lobby County
to increase funding for Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program.
- Support traffic
calming in neighboring civic associations by partnering with them
on joint projects and encouraging them to request traffic calming
for adjacent streets (such as Yorktown Boulevard) where traffic
speeds impact on our neighborhood.
Improve
neighborhood parkland, expand open spaces, and improve the tree canopy.
- Minor Hill/Sharp
Park:
- Work with
County staff to implement Area A improvements (near pumphouse).
- Submit
Minor Hill 2 NC project and work with County Staff toward implementation.
- Continue support
for tree canopy expansion through the fall tree planting program
and median projects on Little Falls, Williamsburg, and Sycamore
(see above).
Improve
communication with the neighborhood, community, and County.
- Continue to
hold monthly meetings and ad hoc committee meetings to keep the
neighborhood informed and solicit suggestions and approval for community
projects.
- Continue to
publish monthly newsletters, supported primarily by advertisement
and distributed by a combination of the US mail and volunteer door-to-door
distributors.
- Publish ad
hoc e-newsletters and action alerts to WCA distribution list.
- Expand WCA
distribution list.
- Reorganize
and expand the Willliamsburg web site to reflect all Neighborhood
Conservation projects, traffic calming activities, and zoning/infill
material.
Increase
community involvement in neighborhood projects and enhance a sense
of community.
- Hold a Neighborhood
Day Pancake Breakfast.
- Continue the
pre-meeting coffee half-hour.
- Continue to
maintain active WCA representation at the Arlington Civic Federation
and the Neighborhood Conservation Advisory Committee.
- Organize a
fall community clean up day.
- Seek more publicity
for the Civic Association through local newspapers.
- Continue to
provide organizational support to citizen requests on such matters
as zoning problems, noise ordinance violations, and other zoning
ordinance problems.
